How we pick software and verify prices

How kits are built

We organise software by trade (plumbers, HVAC companies, electricians, roofers, landscapers, dentists, salons & spas, restaurants) and by the jobs a business needs done: 16 of them, from scheduling to payroll.

For each trade and each job, Amine, who writes Kitfinch, names one pick and a few alternatives, and writes a short reason for the pick. Today that covers 66 tools across 63 trade-and-job combinations. The reasons are editorial judgements based on what each vendor publishes about its product: features, who it is built for, and how it is sold.

How prices are verified

A price appears on Kitfinch only when all of the following are true:

• it was read on the vendor's own pricing page, and we link to that page;
• we saved a copy of the page at the time we read it, so the figure can be checked later;
• the check happened in the last 60 days, and recent re-checks have not failed.

If any of these is missing, you'll see Check price on vendor site instead of a figure. We never estimate, average or copy prices from other review sites. Right now 95 plan prices pass these rules; every other tool shows no price.

Price labels

• Verified <date> checked within the last 30 days.
• Last verified N days ago checked 31 to 60 days ago. Still shown, but it may be out of date.
• Price change under review our latest check found a different figure that we haven't confirmed yet.
• Custom pricing the vendor only quotes on request.

After 60 days without a successful check, the price is hidden until it is verified again.

Kit totals

The monthly cost of a kit adds up the cheapest verified plan of each pick. Per-user prices are multiplied by your team size, and vendor minimums are applied (a plan sold in packs of three users costs three seats even for one person). Yearly prices are divided by 12. A tool that appears in several jobs is counted once.

Tools without a verified price are left out of the total and listed separately, and the total always says how many tools it covers. Taxes, add-ons, setup fees and promotions are not included.

What we don't do

• No star ratings or scores. We don't publish ratings we can't substantiate.
• No user reviews or testimonials, real or invented.
• No vendor logos. Tools are shown with generated monograms.

How we make money

Some links to vendors are affiliate links: if you sign up after clicking, the vendor may pay us a commission. Commission is not one of the criteria above, and it has no effect on whether a price is shown. Details are in our advertiser disclosure.

Corrections

Prices change. If you see a price that doesn't match the vendor's page, use the “Spotted a wrong price?” box on the tool's pricing page and we'll re-check it.
